With your support, we have taken our campaign for Hong Kong to more countries, wider audiences, and more diverse partners than ever. We have organized young leaders and students from more than 15 universities and political parties in 10 countries - training the next generation of business, political, and civil society leaders to defend democracy and freedom. We shared the Hong Kong story in front of over 70,000 in Prague during the country’s annual celebration of the Velvet Revolution. We launched efforts to suspend and revoke the only two remaining extradition agreements with Hong Kong (Czech Republic and Portugal) in Europe, and we plan to target the remaining eight countries globally. We met with and were received by Vatican officials to advocate for religious freedom and political prisoners and against any deal being renewed with the Chinese Communist Party. We engaged with officials from the European Union, the United Nations, and governments of more than 20 nations around issues of sanctions, transnational repression, press freedom, risks and threats of PRC investment and political interference, religious freedom, etc. (Gdansk, Poland) We helped to launch the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation with one of the largest media corporations in the world dedicated to letting dissidents speak – and erected a full-sized replica of the Pillar of Shame that was removed in Hong Kong in Berlin. We partnered with innovative tech firms like Proton – which provides encrypted email and VPN services often used by journalists, dissidents, and protesters in authoritarian countries – to ensure that technology is a tool for freedom rather than a tool of repression and censorship. We co-hosted the first-ever DC summits for Ukraine and lent our expertise and relationships to support Ukraine’s fight for existence. We screened the film “The Hong Konger” about Jimmy Lai at over 30 events in 20 countries. We advocated and won – extended and renewed protection for Hong Kongers residing in the US but also protections for many other refugees worldwide.
